Granting JICA Award of 2020 to Ambassador Hisham El-Zimaity, ECFA Secretary General

On Wednesday 20th of January 2021, JICA Egypt Office, headed by Mr. OMURA Yoshifumi, has granted the Chief Representative Award to His Excellency Ambassador Hisham El-Zimaity in recognition for his outstanding contributions to JICA’s operations in Egypt as well as for strengthening and promoting cooperation between Egypt and Japan throughout his long career in the diplomatic field, especially during his service as the Egyptian Ambassador to Japan in the years 2011 to 2015.

Amb. Zimaity continues to extend great contributions to enhance progress of the “Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) Construction Project”, which is a living symbol of cooperation between the two countries for preserving ancient Egyptian cultural heritage to the whole world. He has been serving this iconic project as one of the members of its Board of Directors since 2017 and also as the General Coordinator of Egypt-Japan Senior Officials Higher Committee “SOHC” since its establishment in 2015.

It is worth mentioning that beside his current position as the Secretary General of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Zimaity held many important positions along his diplomatic career such as the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Organizations and Multilateral Diplomacy, and Assistant Minister for Americas Affairs. He also served as Egypt’s ambassador to Japan, Hungary, Slovenia, and Pakistan, and as a member of the Egyptian delegations to the United Nations in Geneva and New York. He also served as a diplomat in Sénégal, Belgium, and France, and held the positions of Director of the Cairo Institute for Diplomatic Studies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of Cairo Center for Training on Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping in Africa.

JICA has extended its gratitude and appreciation to his continuous cooperation and friendship, and will continue to work together for more welfare and prosperity to the peoples of both countries.

From his side, Amb. Zimaity expressed his deepest thanks and appreciation to JICA Egypt Office for such recognition and extended his sincere respect and highest consideration to JICA and the Government and people of Japan.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Professor Hany Helal, Former Minister of Higher Education and Secretary General of Egypt-Japan Education Partnership, and Dr. Mahmoud Abdallah, Expert on asset management and restructuring and Board Member of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
