On September 26, 2021, Ambassador Dr. Mounir Zahran, ECFA Chairman, participated in the ceremony held by the Egyptian-Chinese Friendship Association, on the occasion of the National Day of the People’s Republic of China, during which he emphasized Egypt’s strong relations with China, and their common civilizational dimension, since Egypt’s recognition of the People’s Republic of China in the early fifties of the last century, and its establishment of full diplomatic relations between the two countries since 1956. Since then, Egypt has enjoyed China’s support in various international political, economic, commercial and cultural forums, while highlighting Chinese support for the choices of the Egyptian people since the June 30, 2013 Revolution.
Dr. Zahran indicated that the relations between the two countries have risen to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership since the Egyptian presidential visit to China in December 2014, highlighting that the two countries’ external fundamentals consist of the establishment of a fair and just international political and economic system, based on respect for each country’s privacy and non-interference in internal affairs. Egypt is also committed to supporting China in its just causes, as it supports it in the one-China policy. The Chinese stances also converge with the Arab ones; China supports Arab issues within international forums, especially the Palestinian cause, by establishing an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. China also supports reaching peaceful political settlements for the crises in Syria, Libya and Yemen.
It is worth noting that there is continuous consultation and coordination between the delegations of the two countries within international forums, especially in the United Nations, specialized agencies, programs, funds and international conferences, including in particular the Human Rights Council, the Conference on Disarmament, peacekeeping and peacebuilding operations, and the Group of 77. In addition, military relations between Egypt and China represent a top priority for strengthening military cooperation in the fields of manufacturing and joint training, as part of Egypt’s strategy to diversify its sources of arms, in addition to joint cooperation to counter terrorism.
