On November 15, 2021, ECFA held a virtual summit with the China-Arab Research Center on Reform and Development (CARC) of the Shanghai International Studies University, during which a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two sides by Ambassador Dr. Ezzat Saad, ECFA Director, who affirmed that the signed MOU enhances understanding and view of each side to the other.
He explained that it is a framework regulating cooperation relations between the two institutions and includes regular political consultations and the promotion of each side’s understanding and view of the other. He added that ECFA organized a successful symposium before signing this MOU with CARC, in May 2021, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China.
On his part, the President of Shanghai International Studies University, LI Yansong, expressed his hope that CARC and ECFA will strengthen their cooperation to provide a platform and support for the two sides to share the experiences of the country’s governance, reform and development.
On the sidelines of the signing of the MOU, the two sides discussed a number of international issues of concern, especially the U.S.-China rivalry and its repercussions. They also addressed developments in China’s relations with Arab countries and its bilateral relations with Egypt, as well as means for Arab countries to benefit from China’s inspiring experience in the process of comprehensive development and combating poverty. The dialogue was moderated from the Egyptian side by Ambassador Dr. Mounir Zahran, ECFA Chairman.
