Statement condemning the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip
January 4, 2024Seminar on “Challenges of water and food resources in Egypt and means to address them”
January 16, 2024On January 16, 2024, ECFA hosted the Ambassador of the State of Slovenia to Cairo, Sašo Podlesnik, where he was received by Ambassador Mohamed El-Oraby, ECFA Chairman, and Ambassador Dr. Ezzat Saad, ECFA Director. The guest affirmed his country’s close friendly relations with Egypt, adding that Egypt plays a pivotal and decisive role in achieving security and stability in the Middle East region, which is witnessing multiple challenges, especially with the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.
The guest inquired about a number of issues, including the current situation in the Middle East region, especially the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, and the related skirmishes in the Red Sea, international trade and its impact on the Suez Canal, as well as the issue of Palestinian reconciliation, and Saudi/Israeli potential normalization, as well as Iranian actions, the situation in Sudan, and Egypt-Türkiye relations. On its part, ECFA affirmed that the current situation in the Middle East is a result of American practices there, and Washington’s wrong way of dealing with its issues, believing that these issues will only be resolved through a military solution, and perhaps this is evident in Gaza, Libya, Yemen, Syria, and others. Before October 7, 2023, Washington was keen on maintaining the status quo of the Palestinian cause, but was not interested in addressing the roots of the conflict. In fact, the situation in the region will not return to what it was before the aforementioned date, as this is a turning point in the history of the conflict with Israel, and in the history of the entire region.
It was also emphasized that Hamas cannot now be condemned in light of the legitimacy it has gained for defending Palestinian rights usurped by Israel for more than 70 years. Certainly, Egypt and other countries will continue to strive towards healing the rift among the Palestinian factions and backing the Palestinian position at this critical historical stage. Saudi Arabia will also not accept normalization with Israel without settling the cause.
