The Council highly appreciates the announcement by Ireland, Spain and Norway, on May 22, of their recognition of the sisterly State of Palestine, in a manner that supports international efforts aimed at establishing a political horizon leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of the fourth of June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, and in a manner that reflects a real conviction of the two-state solution and a sincere desire by these countries to defend this solution, and save it from those who want to sabotage and eliminate it, especially at this historic moment in the age of the Palestinian cause. and the region. While applauding this important and courageous step, the Council commends the positive trend represented by the recognition of the three countries following the adoption of the same action by the States of Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas, thus reinforcing the course of the overwhelming majority of the countries of the world that have already taken the same step, bringing the total number of States that recognize the independent Palestinian State to about 147.
In this context, the Council hopes that the decisions of the three States will be part of a broader move that imposes peace and puts the international community on a clear path towards a just and comprehensive peace, which will only guarantee security and stability for the region and the world. In particular, the Council urges the rest of the European States, that have not yet taken this step, to move towards recognition of the State of Palestine. In this context, the Council calls upon Britain, in particular, to adopt this just and equitable course of action and to correct the mistake it committed against the Palestinian people, represented in the fateful Balfour Declaration in 1917, and present with its hateful legacy, strongly in the collective Arab memory, which embodies today the racist “apartheid” state in Palestine, as a blatant form of settler colonialism, which Britain continues to defend, in alliance with world Zionism, and provides it with lethal weapons, refusing even to apologize for it. As for the disgraceful position of the United States in rejecting the declaration of the three European countries to recognize the state of Palestine, on the pretext that it is unilateral, it no longer surprises anyone, as hypocrisy and double standards have become an integral part of the American approach to the right of the Palestinian people to their independent and sovereign state. It is a shame that the United States maintains its position of adhering to granting Israel immunity and contempt for the rules and principles of international law and international humanitarian law, which it demands respect in connection with the war in Ukraine.
The US ruling elite, like Israel’s ultra-racist government and the handful of countries supporting it, lives in a world of its own making, defending a corroding colonial international order that is rejected by the overwhelming majority of the international community.
