September 3, 2024Statement
The Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs mourns Ambassador Dr. Nabil Elaraby, one of its founding members, who passed away yesterday, August 26.
The late great is considered one of the flags of Egyptian and Arab diplomacy. He participated in the Camp David negotiations that led to the conclusion of the peace treaty between Cairo and Tel Aviv in March 1979, and led the Egyptian negotiations with Israel, for 7 years, to recover Taba, as well as serving as a judge at the International Court of Justice between 2001 and 2006, then as Egypt’s foreign minister in 2011, and as secretary-general of the Arab League between 2011 and 2016.
The Council also recalls with great appreciation and gratitude the contributions of the late Ambassador Elaraby to the Council’s programmes and activities on various issues, particularly the legal and political aspects, and his outstanding contributions to the results and recommendations of those activities.
As the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs mourns one of its loyal members, it prays for mercy and forgiveness for him, and for his family and friends for patience and solace.
