Statement of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs On the occasion of the International Day of Peace

Professional Experience
2014-2016: The Arab Republic of Egypt’s Ambassador to Republic of Lebanon
2013-2014: First Assistant Minister and Founder of the Neighboring Countries Sector, established to strategically manage post-Arab Spring unrest and instability across the region, focusing in particular on relations with Libya, Sudan, South Sudan, Palestine and Israel. Main responsibilities included:
- Design and implementation of Egypt’s strategy and policies towards Egypt’s neighboring states;
- Leading a crisis management response to unrest and managing the ramifications of instability;
- Representing Egypt in regional and international fora;
- Heading Egyptian Delegations for multiple rounds of Libya’s Neighboring States Conferences, as well as on Gaza Reconstruction;
- Led two first-of-their kind delegations, including one regional mission, to Tobruk, after the election of House of Commons.
2012-2013: Chairman of the State Information Service (SIS)
- Designed a plan to renovate and promote institutionalism at SIS
2003-2012: Ambassador of Egypt to South Africa
2007-2008: Assistant Minister for Arab Affairs. Main responsibilities included:
- Managing and promoting Egypt’s ties with all Arab states;
- Headed Egyptian delegations to several joint-commissions with Arab states;
- Representing Egypt in regional and international fora on Iraq.
2006-2007: Founder and Director of the Policy Planning and Crisis Management Department, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Ministry
- Representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Egypt’s National Committee for Crisis Management;
- Advising on Egypt’s policy options for multiple international crises.
2003-2006: Ambassador of Egypt to Yemen
2001-2003: Director of West Asia Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Tasks included:
- Managing the Iranian and Afghanistan files since September 11th, 2001
2000-2001: Director of Central America Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
1996-2000: Charge D’Affaires and Deputy Head of Mission, Ottawa, Canada
1991-1995: First Secretary, Egyptian Embassy, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
1990-1991: Diplomat, International Organizations Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Responsible for advising on Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait and the subsequent regional crisis.
