ECFA rejects the statements made by US President Donald Trump
February 5, 2025The Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs(ECFA) affirms its full support for the positions contained in the final communiqué (Cairo Communiqué), issued by the Extraordinary Arab Summit hosted by the Arab Republic of Egypt on March 4, which clearly reflect the commitment of the Arab countries to the Palestinian cause and their categorical rejection of any form of displacement of the Palestinian people from or within their land, under any name, circumstance, justification or claims, as a grave violation of international law, a crime against humanity and ethnic cleansing. We also condemn the policies of starvation and scorched earth aimed at forcing the Palestinian people to leave their land.
The Council appreciates the Egyptian “Arab Inclusive” plan for early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, which was prepared in full coordination with the State of Palestine and the Arab States, and based on studies conducted by the World Bank and the United Nations Development program. In this context, the Council recognizes the fact that the support of the international community remains necessary to put the plan into effect by providing “all kinds of financial, material and political support, urging the international community and international and regional financial institutions to urgently provide the necessary support for the plan, and stressing that all these efforts are proceeding in parallel with the launch of a political process and a horizon for a lasting and just solution with the aim of achieving the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish their statehood”, as affirmed in the Cairo Communiqué.
The Council welcomes Egypt’s call to convene an international conference in Cairo next month on recovery and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, in cooperation with the State of Palestine and the United Nations, and urges the international community to participate in it in order to accelerate the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and to work to establish a trust fund to receive financial pledges from all donor countries and funding institutions for this purpose.
The Council expresses its full conviction that US President Donald Trump is capable of achieving peace in the Middle East and has a historic opportunity in this regard, especially in light of the strong desire, affirmed by the Arab Summit, for “immediate engagement with the US Administration” and all partners in the international community to resume peace negotiations with a view to reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian question. The Cairo Communiqué noted the positive role played by the Trump administration in reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza in cooperation with Egypt and Qatar.
While affirming Egypt’s firm position in support of the rights of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination, the Council stresses the need for continued intensive diplomatic efforts to achieve a comprehensive and just peace that guarantees stability and development for the peoples of the region.
