The 22nd anniversary of the killing of American citizen Rachel Corrie
March 16, 2025This March marks the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the League of Arab States, an organization that remains a symbol of Arab unity and solidarity, and a platform for dialogue and cooperation between brothers united by a common language, ancient culture and shared history.
Throughout its eight decades of existence, and thanks to the political will of member states, the League has proven its ability to promote solidarity among its members, protect their interests in international forums, and confront political, economic, and social challenges. The League has a prominent historical role in supporting the Palestinian cause, the central Arab cause, promoting economic integration and preserving cultural identity. The League has also been a witness to joint Arab achievements, despite the difficulties it has faced throughout its history.
As we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Arab League, the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs emphasizes the vital importance of strengthening the role of the League as an inclusive regional framework to achieve the common aspirations of the Arab nation. The regional and international challenges facing the region require concerted Arab efforts and activation of joint Arab action mechanisms to develop the necessary tools to confront contemporary challenges, renew commitment to the principles of cooperation and solidarity on which the League was founded, and adopt innovative visions to address these challenges, such as humanitarian crises, climate change, digital transformation and others.
As we celebrate this great legacy, the Council affirms its full support for the continued efforts of Member States and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in achieving the desired institutional reform, in order to realize the aspirations of the Arab peoples for unity and development and build a future in which the Arab citizen enjoys stability and prosperity.
