July 7, 2025On the occasion of World Refugee Day, which is celebrated this year under the slogan “Solidarity with Refugees”, the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs reaffirms its full solidarity with millions of refugees around the world, and with their host communities.
On this occasion, the Council appreciates the continuous efforts made by the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, represented by various ministries, educational and health institutions and others, to provide support to refugees in Egypt, which continues to fulfill its international obligations in this regard, as it currently hosts about 10 million refugees, asylum seekers and migrants from 62 different nationalities, and Egypt ranked second in the world for the number of asylum applications submitted in 2024, according to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued on June 20, which stresses cooperation. as “the only way to deal effectively and sustainably with asylum issues in all their dimensions”, especially with the number of refugees around the world reaching unprecedented levels.
In this context, the Council calls on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and contribute to finding a just and sustainable solution to the plight of Palestinian refugees, which remains “the longest refugee crisis in the world that has not yet been resolved,” according to a tweet published by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) on Saturday, June 21. The Council also appreciates the UN agency’s statement issued yesterday, which notes that “after 77 years, Palestinians are still subjected to forced displacement.”
In this regard, the Council deplores Israel’s continued crimes and aggression against the Palestinian people, which exacerbates the humanitarian catastrophe to which the Palestinian people have been subjected for more than seven decades. In this context, the Council stresses the need to provide international support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees to meet the growing needs of these refugees. It also calls upon the international community to find a just settlement to the question of the Israeli occupation of Palestine in order to ensure the return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland, in accordance with the decisions of international legitimacy.
