ECFA presented Egypt’s strategy in the Sinai Peninsula before a delegation from the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), hosted on September 22, 2021 by ECFA at the request of the Organization’s Chief Liaison Office in Cairo. The delegation expressed that it is unfortunate that Israel misunderstood the normalization agreements with it. The Organization’s delegation, which included: Alan Doyle, the Acting Head of Mission of UNTSO, Judy Hylton, the Organization’s advisor for Middle East affairs, Lieutenant Colonel Andrej CUCVARA, Chief Liaison Office (Slovakian), and Captain Nicolas Rey, UNTSO advisor for Egyptian affairs (Swiss), was keen on listening to the vision of ECFA’s members regarding relevant issues.

On the other hand, ECFA delegation included ambassadors Dr. Mounir Zahran, Dr. Ezzat Saad and Alaa Al-Hadidi, as well as ECFA’s member General Mohamed Ibrahim, Deputy Director of the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies.

ECFA members presented the main features and characteristics of the Egyptian foreign policy, since 2014 until now, and its special interest in diversifying its options, openness to all countries, and paying great attention to the African continent.

The meeting also discussed the unequal Gaza war last May, Egypt’s role in stopping the fighting between Israel and Hamas, its initiative to restore calm, and its allocation of $500 million as an Egyptian contribution for Gaza reconstruction.

Moreover, ECFA presented the Egyptian strategy in the Sinai Peninsula, indicating that it is based on two axes: an economic axis for the reconstruction and development of Sinai, and a security axis. In this context, it was noted that the Egyptian state has established about 500 economic and service projects in Sinai since 2014, with a value of about 500 billion EGP.
